This is caused in part by the avoidnce of cardiopulmonary bypass–related morbidity and anipulation of the aorta coupled with minimally invaive techniques. Hybrid revascularization is currently eserved for particularly high-risk patients or those with avorable anatomic variants however, largely because of he emergence of off-pump coronary artery bypass graftng, which permits more complete multivessel revascuarization, with low morbidity in high-risk groups. The ider introduction of hybrid revascularization is limited hiefly by the high number of repeat interventions comared with off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, hich occurs because of the target vessel failure rate of ercutaneous coronary intervention. Outcomes following coronary stenting in the era of bare-metal vs the era of drug-eluting stents.

CONTEXT Although drug-eluting stents reduce restenosis rates relative to bare-metal stents, concerns have been raised that drug-eluting stents may also be associated with an increased risk of stent thrombosis. Our study focused on the effect of stent type on population-based interventional outcomes. OBJECTIVE To compare outcomes of Medicare beneficiaries who underwent nonemergent coronary ste...

Prognostic significance of endothelial dysfunction in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention in the era of drug-eluting stents

BACKGROUND Endothelial function is a prognostic predictor in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, in an era with widespread use of drug-eluting stents, the clinical relevance of endothelial dysfunction on restenosis in patients undergoing PCI has not been fully evaluated. METHODS This study included 80 patients with stable angina pectoris. Flow-mediated dilat...

Effective and efficient strategies for coronary revascularization in the drug-eluting stent era.

We now have at our disposal a variety of new technologies for percutaneous coronary revascularization, including drug-eluting stents (DES), intracoronary radiation therapy, and glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors. Coronary stents have improved both early and late outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention. Stent characteristics including design, stent strut thickness, and stent metal al...

Long Coronary Lesions: Challenging Cases for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention

Long coronary lesions are associated with adverse outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention since the era of plain balloon angioplasty. Long lesion and long stent length are considered as important predictors of restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention. With the advent of newer generation drug eluting stents, there has been dramatic reduction in the rates of restenosis and re...

[Drug-eluting stents and other anti-restenosis devices].

Restenosis remains as the main limitation of percutaneous coronary intervention, even in the era of coronary stents. Recently, drug-eluting stents have been shown to reduce significantly both the rate of in-stent restenosis and the need for subsequent revascularization procedures compared with bare-metal stents. At present, these beneficial effects have been demonstrated mainly with Cypher (Cor...
